My Name Is Eddie
Well, The Thing Is… was born out of some of the hardest chapters of my life.
I grew up in a world where mental health wasn’t taken seriously — and for a long time, I didn’t either. I even made fun of people who struggled, not realizing I was one of them. My childhood was marked by abuse, loss, and the feeling that I had to survive alone. By my teens, I was using alcohol to cope, long before I knew I was living with PTSD, bipolar disorder, and an unspecified personality disorder.
At 30, I hit my breaking point. Sitting in my car, I had to decide whether to drive off a bridge or walk into a hospital and ask for help. I chose help. That choice didn’t “fix” me overnight — but it kept me alive long enough to see that healing is possible.
Over the years, I’ve lost friends to suicide, battled my own dark thoughts, and faced the pain of losing my first child the day she was born. I know what it’s like to be so weighed down that reaching out feels impossible — and I know what it’s like to have someone tell you to “just get over it.”
This platform is my way of making sure no one has to go through it alone. I share my story not for sympathy, but to show that your pain can become your strength. If you’re struggling, you’re not weak — and you’re not alone.
We all carry battles nobody else can see. Here, you’ll find a place where it’s okay to talk about them — and where listening is just as important as speaking.
